In 2004 I was called by the congregation of Fellowship Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana to serve as Assistant Pastor of Evangelism and Discipleship under my father, Pastor Virgil W. Wesco.

Teaching and Discipleship

Family School:

One of my primary responsibilities is teaching the weekly Family School. Unlike traditional age, segregated Sunday Schools, families are not separated into different age groups or classes, but rather learn together just as in the Old Testament when “all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children” (2 Chronicles 20:13).

My objective of Family School at Fellowship Baptist Church is to teach Bible narrative and the simple truths of the Bible on a level that every child or adult can understand. The goal is to cover all Bible narrative systematically in just eight to ten years. The Bible should never be considered boring. It is the living Word of God. It is my goal to make the Bible live and exciting. Using minimal props, I often role play and use volunteers in impromptu dramatizations, always using the text of Scripture as the script. I also use PowerPoint® slides I have designed and developed to make the narratives come to life.

So far I have taught Genesis through I Kings including the parallel passages in Chronicles. Currently I am teaching II Kings with II Chronicles.

One-on-one Discipleship:

The Lord has given me opportunity to personally disciple and counsel men and boys in the faith. It has been exciting to see God work in the lives of many.

Fellowship Baptist Preacher Boys:

The Lord has blessed our church with many young men of God. Although not all have been called to full time ministry or are yet unsure of God’s calling, we seek to teach and equip them in sound hermeneutical Bible study, teaching, and preaching skills. Many of them are also aspiring chalk artists. My goal is to teach faithful men who will be able to teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2).

Evangelism:

Oversee visitation and door-to-door witnessing.
Assist with church-wide outreach ministries such as the annual Live Nativity

Other Ministries:

  1. Sound and media. I oversee the PA sound system and pulpit recording ministry which distributes recordings weekly in Audio CD, MP3 and via the internet PodCast.
  2. Design and manage the Fellowship Baptist Church website.
  3. Design of all church publications.
